What is an online gas exchange and how does it work?

Bubbles 101: Carbonating cylinders create the bubbles. After some time, the carbonating cylinder runs out of CO2. We offer an online exchange in which you get a new carbonating cylinder in exchange for your empty one. Check out the guide below to begin!

Once you order your exchange at SodaStream.com, our Gas Refill program has 3 easy steps to get you back to bubbling.
  1. If you're exchanging 1 or 2 cylinder(s), we'll send your full cylinder(s) and include a prepaid USPS label with your order. Make sure to remove the label from the box and record the tracking number on the label for your records. If you have 3 or more cylinders to exchange, you will receive a UPS label via email and the return package with your empty cylinders should be dropped off at your nearest UPS location.
  2. Place your empty cylinders in the same box in which you received your new cylinders and affix the label to the box.
  3. Drop the package in the mailbox or at a local post office. You can also schedule a pick-up (if applicable to your location).

The shipping is on us. Don’t wait too long to send back your used cylinders.

If you do not return the empty cylinder(s) within the allotted 30 days from the date your refill order was shipped, or if you do not have any empty cylinders to return, we will have to charge you an additional $15 (plus tax) for each unreturned cylinder.

How many cylinders should I exchange?

Good question! SodaStream recommends having at least 3 cylinders on hand, so you’ll always have bubbles and so you can exchange 2 at a time, taking advantage of the reduced shipping charge. Get your back-up CO2 cylinder here.

Where can I find the shipping label to exchange my cylinder(s)?

If you ordered 1 or 2 new cylinder(s) for exchange, you’ll receive a USPS pre-paid return label in the box with your cylinder order.

If you’re exchanging 3 or more cylinders, after submitting your order for a cylinder exchange, you will receive an email with a UPS pre-paid return label.

Why did you only send one return label even though I ordered more than one cylinder exchange?

Don't worry! You can return all of your empty cylinders with the same pre-paid shipping label.

If you ordered up to 2 new CO2 cylinders for exchange, you’ll receive a USPS pre-paid return label in the box with your cylinder order.

Why did I get charged if I returned my empty cylinder?

When you place an online exchange order, we require you to return an empty cylinder for each refill ordered.  If you do not return the empty cylinder(s) within 30 days from the date your refill order was shipped, or if you do not have any empty cylinders to return, there is an additional $15 charge (plus tax) for each unreturned cylinder.

Why do we recommend that you always have more than one cylinder?

We recommend keeping a back-up carbonating cylinder handy so that when one CO2 cylinder runs out, you simply swap the empty cylinder for a full one. What are my payment options for cylinder exchange?

We accept credit cards (American Express, Visa, Discover, MasterCard), and Apple Pay. Sadly, bubble bartering is not an option...yet.

We apologize for any inconvenience but PayPal is not available for cylinder exchange orders.

How can I pay less for shipping on a cylinder exchange?

When ordering cylinders through our online exchange service we recommend exchanging 2 or more cylinders, so you can save over 45% in shipping fees. If you only have one cylinder to exchange, we suggest checking our store locator so you can easily exchange your CO2 cylinders at the nearest retail location.
